Demar Derozan grew up in Compton, California, and from a young age he always had a dream to play in the NBA. He went to USC, where he played for 1 year before being drafted by the Toronto Raptors. Today, Derozan is a 5 time all-star and a 2 time all-NBA player, and one of the best players in the league.
Despite all these accomplishments, Derozan has still been battling anxiety his entire life. In a February 25th letter in the Players Tribune, Derozan opened up about his struggle with anxiety. He discussed the toll anxiety has taken on his life, his struggles with mental health, and how he’s tried to battle his issues.
Since opening up, Derozan has been a role model. He has been an advocate for mental health, and encouraged and inspired others to be open about their struggle. He continues to excel on the court, and continues to bring awareness to mental health.
