Kendrick Lamar was born in Compton, California, into a poor family. Growing up, Lamar was inspired to become a rapper by Dr. Dre and Tupac, and started rapping at 16. His second album, Good Kid, M.A.A.D City, earned him widespread recognition. Since then, Kendrick has won 14 Grammys, and 3 of his albums were named to Rolling Stones top 500 albums of all time.
Throughout his life, Lamar has struggled with depression and suicidal thoughts. He has battled depression since he was a kid, and has spoke about contemplating suicide multiple times, and dealing with all the pressure he struggles with. Lamar has been able to battle through his depression, and still is a successful rapper.
Kendrick has been open about his struggles, rapping about them in his songs and speaking about his experiences. He has helped break down the stigma around mental health, and is a great role model for people struggling with depression.
