Mardy Fish was born in Edina, Minnesota, and from a young age excelled at tennis. By the time he was 18, he was on the ATP Tour. During his pro career, he rose to as high as 7th in the world, and was the top American male tennis player in the world for a time.
However, in a 2021 Netflix documentary, Fish shared his battle with anxiety and depression. He talked about the stresses of being a professional athlete, and also the pressures that society put on him to maintain a certain image. Fish talked about having to keep his anxiety and depression bottled up, and not being able to be himself. Fish overcame these struggles though, and still found success.
As I mentioned, Fish starred in the Netflix series Untold: Breaking Point. In this series, he showed the world that struggling with anxiety and depression is normal, even for a professional athlete. He has been a great role model, and helped destigmatize mental health for people across the country.
