Rihanna was born in Saint-Michael, Barbados, into a middle class family. Growing up, she listened to a lot of reggae music, and wanted to become a singer. She was signed as a teenager, and her first single Pon de Replay, rose to the number 2 spot on the Billboard 100. Since then, Rihanna has sold over 250 million records, won 9 Grammys, and is one of the most well known singers on the planet.
As a kid though, Rihanna dealt with abuse and bullying. Her dad was addicted to crack, and would abuse her, and at school kids would bully her for small things like the color of her eyes. Rihanna was able to overcome all this though, and still become successful.
Rihanna has been open about her struggles, speaking about her abuse and her experiences being bullied. She has talked about the importance of stopping abuse and bullying, and is a great role model for everybody dealing with these struggles.
